Third Annual Heart of the Alleghenies Folk Music Festival

Third Annual Heart of the Alleghenies Folk Music Festival, August 11-13, 2006

History and Mission

The Heart of the Alleghenies Folk Music Festival began in 2004 at Houghton College. We used the same model as the Cook Forest Dulcimer Gathering, Juniata Folk College, and Greenwood Furnace Folk Gathering, which combine workshops, jamming, concerts, and open stage. The Heart of the Alleghenies Folk Music Festival also added a strong contra element. Jodi Blumenthal of Hey Diddle Diddle called the first contra dance for the festival.

Until Cook Forest reorganizes we are happy to offer a regional alternative at the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford in first-rate, fully air-conditioned facilities at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in Bradford, PA. The alumni of Cook Forest look forward to joining Juniata Folk College and Greenwood Furnace Folk Gathering in keeping the festivals available in the region.

It is the mission of The Allegheny Mountain Dulcimer Players and the Heart of the Alleghenies Folk Music Festival to bring together young and Old, beginner and experienced, musicians and audiences and dancers, to play Old Time Fiddle Tunes, Bluegrass, Gospel, Country, Folk and Contra Dance music in a spirit of friendship, hospitality, and learning.
